Description
Rutile is a minreal composed primirily of titanium dioxide, which is reddish-brown to black in colour. Shipped in bulk. Used for a variety of industrial metallurgical purposes in the preparation of certain fluxes and alloys and for coating welding rods.
Principally shipped from Australia, South and West Africa and Brazil. Loss usually arises from bad handling, such as dropping bags from a sling, or from the use of stevedores’ hooks. Any sweepings recovered from holds may be contaminated with dust and dirt. Claims do not usually arise unless such contamination is excessive.
Contamination with Sugar Raw and similar solubles, or with syrup and oil, is likely to make the material unusable. Moisture does not alter the material or cake it, but if it becomes too wet a claim for drying might be expected from some consumers.
