The non-edible remains of slaughtered cattle which are cooked, scoured, dried and subsequently ground with bollards (the meal of a cheap kind of corn). Fertilizers and cattle fodder are the main uses.
This product is comparable with seed waste, reference is made to the relevant IMO publications. The fat-percentage varies from 11 - 13% and the moisture percentage from 3 - 7%. The joint contents of fat and moisture must not be higher than 20%, whilst the temperature at stuffing must not exceed the environmental temperature by more than 6°C. There is a "curing period" required after production, of about 10 days and if the product still feels too hot after curing it is liable to heating and should not be loaded.
Packaging is usually plastic bags and the shipper has to issue a certificate, with regard to the protein, moisture- and fat contents. Precautionary measures are as those for Seed Waste (IMDG). If an accompanying certificate is available and the temperature of the cargo does not exceed the environmental temperature by more than 6°C it will not be necessary to appoint a cargo surveyor.
A further type is the remains of slaughtered cattle which are cooked, scoured and dried and then mixed with ground feathers to promote protein content.
The percentage of ingredients are :
• 42% protein (including 6.7% nitrogen)
• 8-10% fat
• 7% moisture
• 40-45% bone ashes
